This week the papers have been reporting claims by a leading Canadian paediatrician that the information we have on the health benefits of breastfeeding are out of date and that the links between breastfeeding and reduced occurrences of childhood obesity and allergies are 'weak'. Professor Michael Kramer has said that his remarks were taken out of context. He believes that much of the medical advice on breastfeeding has been distorted by the fierce opposition between pro and anti breastfeeding lobbies. So what information can we trust? Jane talks to Professor Kramer about what his twelve year study of the medical impact of breastfeeding has shown. They are joined by Professor Mary Renfrew, Director of the Mother and Infant Research Unit (MIRU) at the University of York.
