Martha Reeves
Motown’s soul diva

Martha Reeves was the lead singer of Martha Reeves and the Vandellas from 1962 onwards. She started out answering telephones for the Motown label, but went on to have a string of hits, including ‘Dancing In The Street’, ‘Nowhere To Run’, ‘Heatwave’, and ‘Jimmy Mac’. Martha still performs regularly, in between working fulltime as an elected member of the City Council in Detroit. She’s currently touring the UK with some of the other Motown giants in a ‘Once In A Lifetime – Legends Live Tour’, as part of the 50 year celebrations of Motown. She talks to Jane about a life making music.

The Once in A Lifetime – Legends Live Tour 2009 will be performing in the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle on 23rd June, the Trent FM Arena in Nottingham on 24th June, the Wembley Arena in London on 25th June, the NIA in Birmingham on 26th June, the Evening News Arena in Manchester on 27th June, and the Echo Arena in Liverpool on 28th June.
