Couture hats, berets and a plastic tiara go on show at the V and A

It used to said "if you want to get ahead, get a hat!" And when Aretha Franklin appeared at President Obama's inauguration last month, it was clear that what you wear on your head can still make quite an impact! On Facebook, the Luke Song creation she wore has well over 100 thousand fans of its own!
A new exhibition devoted to all matters hat-related is opening at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. The exhibits include a 17th Century puritan's hat, Queen Victoria's bonnet, a beret, a child's plastic tiara and many wonderful couture items. Radical milliner, Stephen Jones, takes Jane on a personal tour of the show and they discuss the appeal of 'the hat' - the accessory which Stephen describes as 'The cherry on the cake'.

Exhibition: Hats: An Anthology by Stephen Jones runs at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London from 24 February – 31 May 2009
