The actor and writer Ruth Jones shot to stardom after winning best female newcomer as Nessa in the multi-award-winning television series Gavin and Stacey, which she also co-wrote. The irony is that she is anything but new to our TV screens. She has had a long career in comedy series such as Fat Friends, Little Britain and Nighty Night. Most recently she has moved into period dramas, featuring in Tess of the d'Urbervilles and Little Dorrit, which is currently showing on BBC One. Jane talks to Ruth Jones about what it feels like to be, as she puts it, the longest-ever overnight success story.
