Goes Gospel

In the 1980s the American musician Michelle Shocked performed a selection of songs while sitting round a campfire in Texas. They were recorded on a simple Sony Walkman and unbeknown to her released in Britain as ‘The Texas Campfire Tapes’. Her career rocketed. She was signed by a major label and released perhaps her best known song ‘Anchorage’ CLIP. She was a well known political activist, imprisoned on protest marches and even incarcerated by her fundamentalist Mormon family in a metal institution. Now she’s back with a selection of Gospel and Secular songs on her album ‘To Heaven U Ride’.
