Politics
Women Leaders2nd Oct 2008
Do female world leaders act differently in times of crisis?

The first question on ‘Any Questions’ 60 years ago asked “What effect would it have on world affairs if women were able to exert more power in politics?” In the decades that have passed there have been a significant number of female heads of state, with high profile examples like Golda Meir, Indira Gandhi, Benazir Bhutto and of course Mrs. Thatcher. Now in Israel Tzipi Livni has become head of the largest party in government, and could well go on to be Prime Minister. So what difference does it make to have a woman at the top of the political tree, particularly in areas as volatile as the Middle East?

Sheila is joined by Mark Almond, lecturer in history, Oxford University and by the BBC's Diplomatic Correspondent Bridget Kendall
