The crime writer and The Private Patient.
As her new book, The Private Patient, is published, Jenni talks to the crime writer about her life, her writing and her famous detective, Adam Dalgliesh – who features in this latest novel. Now aged 88, she looks back at her long and illustrious working life, which saw her enter, first the National Health Service, then the Home Office – having come third in the country in the Civil Service entrance exams. She later became a Governor of the BBC and was created a life peer, Baroness James of Holland Park, in 1991. But her lifelong interest has been for writing and she tells Jenni why it is crime that has always fascinated her.
