On her novel based on the love life of Charles Dickens.
Gaynor Arnold is 63, and her first novel, Girl in a Blue Dress, has been long listed for this year’s Man Booker Prize. She finds herself in illustrious company – the other 12 writers on the list include Salman Rushdie and John Berger. Gaynor is a social worker by profession and says she has no intention of giving up the day job to write full time. She joins Jenni to talk about her book, which is loosely based on the life of Catherine Dickens - wife of the great Victorian novelist, Charles Dickens.
