Margaret Mellis
A film and exhibition celebrates her life and art.

Margaret Mellis is one of the last surviving artists from the St Ives group of the 1930s, made famous by the likes of Barbara Hepworth and Ben Nicholson. A precocious talent from an early age, she continued, throughout her career, to explore her love of colour and music in her works. Now, an exhibition and a film – featuring the voice of Susannah York - celebrating her life and work is opening in Norwich. Susannah York and Emily Whalley, a long term friend of the artist talk to Jenni about the life and art of Margaret Mellis.

The exhibition, which includes excerpts from the film, is at the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts, Norwich, and runs until Sunday 31 August.

The recording of Margaret Mellis is reproduced with the kind permission of the British Library Sound Archive.
