Eileen Atkins in The Sea
From Cranford back to the West End

Eileen Atkins has built a long and successful acting career on stage and screen, taking in stints with the RSC, at the Old Vic and on Broadway. Her performance in BBC One’s Cranford at the end of last year won her further acclaim, despite the fact that her character died before the end of the second episode. But she has always regarded the stage as her home, and has just returned to the West End to play the domineering Mrs Rafi in Edward Bond’s The Sea. Jane talks to Eileen Atkins about her life, her career and her latest role.

The Sea is at the Royal Theatre Haymarket until 19th April 2008
