The jazz world’s answer to Dorothy Parker

Fran Landesman wrote the lyrics to songs that have become twentieth century classics: Spring Can Hang You Up the Most and The Ballad of the Sad Young Men. She was part of the Beat Generation in America, but since the mid-sixties she’s made her home in London. She’s still busy writing; her witty, insightful poetry and lyrics have led to her being called “the poet laureate of the borderland between urban hipness and emotional insecurity”. She’s also well-known for her long marriage – one which has had room for other people.

Jenni is joined by Fran Landesman who’ll be talking about turning eighty and performing live.

Fran Landesman was 80 on the 21st October 2007.
There is a celebratory 80th Birthday Gig (with Sarah Moule and Simon Wallace) on Sunday 28th October at 1pm, at the 606 Club in London.
There will also be a Fran Landesman 80th Celebration at 7.30 pm on Thursday 15th November at the RADA foyer bar in London.
