History
Latin love lessons16 Oct 2007
What can we learn from the Roman poets?

What can a collection of 2000-year-old poems teach us about modern romance? Lovers and would-be lovers can find a huge amount of advice in Roman poetry – from Ovid’s tips on picking up girls, to Catullus’s suggestions on dealing with a broken heart and Virgil’s textbook case of how not to dump a girlfriend.

Jenni talks to Charlotte Higgins, the Guardian’s arts correspondent and author of a new book Latin Love Lessons, and Mary Beard, professor of Classics at the University of Cambridge.

Latin Love Lessons: Put a little Ovid in your life by Charlotte Higgins is published by Short Books, ISBN: 978-1-906021-13-9
