The 19th century women's rights campaigner remembered.
Born in 1827, Barbara Bodichon was a pioneering women's rights activist. The illegitimate daughter of an MP, she went on to become one of the earliest campaigners for women's votes. As well as co-founding the first women's college in Cambridge, Girton College, she battled for many years to win the right for married women to own their own property. However, despite her achievements, Barbara Bodichon (nee Barbara Leigh Smith) has received relatively little public recognition. Now the village of Brightling in East Sussex has launched an appeal to restore Bodichon's tomb which is in a state of disrepair.
