Mistinguett
Before Bette Midler, Liza Minelli and Madonna, there was Mistinguett "Queen of the Paris Music Hall." . In the 1920s and 30s she was the highest paid female entertainer in the world. She didn't have much of a singing voice, she wasn't an exceptional dancer or a great beauty, so what was it that made people flock to see her? As a collection of her memorabilia goes under the hammer at Christies, her biographer David Brett and Catherine Franc, lecturer in French at Manchester University join us to explore her appeal.
