Gillian Ayres has been described as the finest abstract artist alive in Britain. In a rare interview with Woman’s Hour she reveals the working practices behind her vast, colourful and exuberant style. Born in London in 1930, she now lives in Cornwall and continues to produce her vast, vibrant and energetic canvasses. Jane Little asks her how she felt working in a predominantly male environment and why, with paintings selling at £45 000, she still feels she’s not good enough.
