Gill Hicks – survivor of the London bombings10 April 2007
Gill Hicks
On the day of the July 7th bombings, Gill Hicks was the last person to be pulled alive from the Piccadilly Line carriage in which 26 people were killed. She had been on her way to work when the terrorist’s bomb exploded just feet away from where she was standing.

Although she survived, her injuries were so severe that both her legs had to be amputated and she suffered severe hearing damage. Five months later, her wedding to her fiancé Joe made headlines around the world – partly because she was determined to walk down the aisle.

Jenni Murray talks to Gill about the events of July 7th, her struggle to come to terms with the loss of her legs, and how she has learnt to adjust to a new ‘normal’.

"One Unknown" by Gill Hicks, published by Rodale on April 12th 2007, ISBN 978-1-4050-9989-9.
