Depression is a mental health disorder that can affect the way you eat and sleep, the way you feel about yourself, and the way you think about things. It is an illness that leaves you with an intense feeling of unrelenting sadness, powerlessness and despondency. Depression is one of the most common mental health problems - 1 in 6 people in the UK will suffer from depression at some point in their life. But, what is it like to live with a partner who is suffering from depression? How does it feel when the person you love has become a stranger to you?
Jenni talks to Caroline Carr, author of 'Living with the Black Dog, How to Cope When Your Partner is Depressed', and Dr Tim Kendall, consultant psychiatrist and Director of The National Collaborating Centre for Mental Health, about why someone whose partner is depressed needs special support and how best to look after yourself, as well as your partner. Jenni is also joined by husband and wife, Paul and Judy, to talk about how Paul's depression has affected their relationship over the years and how their marriage has survived against all the odds.
