In 1906, Finland became the first European country to give women the vote. It was also the first country in the world to allow women to stand for election and nineteen women were elected to Parliament the following year. So how did Finnish women manage to secure these rights ahead of other countries and did their presence within government have an effect on subsequent policy decisions?
One hundred years on, Jenni is joined by Paula Lehtomäki, Finnish Minister for Foreign Trade and Development, and Johanna Kantola, Senior Lecturer in Politics at Helsinki University , to explore the legacy of suffrage and the current challenges facing Finnish women.
