Birthing Centres - threatened closures24 May 2006
The recent debate about the desirability of home births has been overtaken by news that many birthing centres around the country could be closed. The government has reiterated its commitment to offering women choice in childbirth, and has even brought forward its target for doing so by five years to 2009. But with NHS trusts facing enormous financial pressures some services simply have to go.

Jenni is joined by midwife Mandy Robotham, Belinda Phipps of the National Childbirth Trust and David Drew, Labour and Co-operative MP for Stroud. They will be discussing how the government's promise to offer choice can be reconciled with the limited resources available.
