Winifred Robinson investigates what more could be done to protect people from the spread of infectious diseases in our hospitals.
She follows doctors and nurses at the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham as they battle to contain an outbreak of Clostridium Difficile, and she contrasts our practices and facilities with those available in Holland.
In the past five years, MRSA has been a contributory factor in more than 3,000 hospital deaths. In response the Government set hospital trusts the task of reducing infection rates by 20% a year. Many say this isn't achievable and they question whether we've any real hope of warding off infections like Clostridium Difficile.
