For the third year running Today is giving a rare Christmas gift to five well-known listeners - we're handing them control of the programme.
From 27-31 December, Today will be guest edited by:
HSBC chairman Sir John Bond, (27 December)
Anna Ford, (28 December)
Steve 'Chandrasonic' Savale, (29 December) from the band Asian Dub Foundation.
David Blunkett, (30 December) and
Queen Noor of Jordan, (31 December)
 
 
Our illustrious new leaders will occupy the editor’s chair for a day each, filling their editions of Today with material they think you should hear.
Past guest editors include: Bono; the Duchess of York; Anthony Minghella; Professor Stephen Hawking; and Lord Tebbit.
Our editors are keen to get their feet under the editor’s desk. David Blunkett said: "Editing the Today Programme is something that I'm sure most listeners (and I am very much a listener now!) would want to have a go at. I'm particularly keen to reflect a better social and geographical spread, without alienating the traditional audience. I hope it will be entertaining - not full of heavy politics!"
Anna Ford said: “At last a chance to get my hands on the running order and content. What an opportunity! I'm really looking forward to it.”
Among the many themes our new editors plan to explore are: ageism (Anna Ford); Britain’s industrial heritage (David Blunkett); the rise of China (Sir John Bond); the nature of news (Steve Savale); and the link between poverty and terror (Queen Noor). There will be plenty of lighter moments, too, and some surprises.
