Zacarias MoussaouiMother Defends Sept 11 Suspect
Exclusive interview by Sarah Nelson
He's a suspected terrorist. He's being held in the US in connection with the September 11 attacks. Plus, according to his mother, he is being made a scapegoat by the American Government.

Aicha el-Wafi is a French woman of Moroccan descent and is the mother of Zacarias Moussaoui. She spoke to Today's Sarah Nelson in her first British broadcast interview.

Zacarias Moussaoui is in prison in Washington awaiting trial in January. He was first arrested a month before the September 11th attacks over visa irregularities. But he has since been charged with helping to plot the attacks.

Moussaoui is believed to have become involved with Islamic extremists when he lived in London for five years. He later trained as a pilot in America and is accused of preparing to be the so-called 20th hijacker.
