| 21st August 2006 Historical Places in Britain As part of our debate on the teaching of history in schools we are travelling around Britain in search of sites of historical resonance. Below are the landmarks nominated so far: We also want to hear from you. Do you have any historical sites that should be included in this quest. Email them to us. Monday 21st August Stamford Bridge near York, where in 1066 King Harold defeated an invading Viking army, just a fortnight before he was himself defeated at the Battle of Hastings. Polly Billington reports.  Tuesday 22nd August St Michael's Abbey in Farnborough, the burial site of Napoleon III. Angus Stickler reports.  Wednesday 23rd August Eyam in Derbyshire - the village that sealed itself off from the outside world when it was struck by the Black Death in the seventeenth century. Bob Walker reports.  Friday 25th August Clifford Tower in York, scene of the massacre of 150 Jews in the 12th century. Andrew Hosken reports.  Tuesday 29th August Weaver's Triangle in Burnley, once home to Britain's world dominating cotton industry. Polly Billington Reports  Saturday 26th August The pub in Cambridge where Crick and Watson declared that they had discovered the double helix and had therefore solved the secret of life.
