Poetry Quiz

Daisy Goodwin, who has compiled a number of popular anthologies, claims poetry is becoming as obsolete in British culture as morris dancing. Whilst the likes of Larkin and Betjeman were household names just twenty years ago, now even well educated people would struggle to identify the works of our most distinguished contemporary poets. Is she right? To find out, Daisy Goodwin presented Today listeners with the following short test:

1. Who wrote a poem that begins, "bloody men are like bloddy buses..."?

2. Who wrote a sonnet featuring the shipping forecast?

3. Name a poem by Tom Paulin?

4. Who won the Whitbread prize for poetry last week for his version of The Iliad?

5. Which poet is this? Listen here.
