Professor Tim Spector is a doctor with a fascination with twins. Over the last twelve years he has built up the UK’s largest database of twins. He and his team at St Thomas’ Hospital in London have made the most detailed study of these matching pairs of adults anywhere in the world.
The Twin Research Unit has more than 300 measurements of a wide range of human aspects – from sense of humour to levels of hormones.
Trisha Macnair joins Tim Spector - and several hundred twins - at a research day organised with the University of Newcastle, on the genetics of attraction. The tests include sniffing perfume and body odour as well as rating the faces and voices of strangers. She meets the twins who, despite being human guinea pigs for all kinds of experiments, have become friends with Professor Spector.
