This week's topics:

Greenland

'I have just read an alarming book entitled 'A Farewell to Greenland's Wildlife' by Kjeld Hansen. He suggests that unless this process is reversed, within 10-20 years some species will become extinct. What can be done about this?'

'Mobbing'

I always find it interesting to see smaller birds mobbing a solitary larger bird. Do certain species only mob birds from other certain species or can they chase anything that upsets them?

CORAL

I went to an Aquarium shop and was dismayed by the tropical fish who had been taken from coral reefs from around the world. In a jewellery shop I saw a coral necklace made from a species of coral which takes thousands of years to grow. Do you think that in light of destruction of 70% of the worlds coral reef this trade should be banned, as many of these fish and corals could be faced with extinction?

Dumping sewage

125 miles to the west of the river Nile is the Quattara depression. Would it be feasible to run a pipeline from the Nile so that all the sewage from the Mediterranean off Egypt could be dumped in the depression?

Richard Daniel interviewed Professor Andrew Goudie of Hertford College Oxford
