Coffee and garden pests

If slugs are really killed by weak coffee, as recently reported, at first sight it seems the answer to many gardeners' prayers. And since the original solution containing caffeine was being tested for controlling tree frogs, does this mean coffee might kill amphibians?

Wildlife Trust: amphibian advice

Corks

I have recently returned from Cologne where, in several restaurants and shops, I saw collection points for wine corks. Is there any collection agency in the UK. If not is it worth encouraging people to recycle them? Do the Germans know something we don't?
