From the recent G8 summit to domestic disagreements, human beings are constantly negotiating. So what's the secret of successful negotiation?
Programme details
NEGOTIATION Negotiation is key to human interaction whether at work, home or even in the world of politics. So what psychological techniques can we use to break deadlock and reach a deal that everyone can live with? Dr Daniel Shapiro , Associate Director of the Harvard Negotiation Project and co-author of Beyond Reason, Using Emotions as You Negotiate and Steve Hodder, a negotiator for ACAS, the UK conciliation service, discuss the psychology of negotiation.
MEG NEURO-IMAGING Magnetoencephalography (MEG) is a new brain scanning technique arriving at neuroscience research departments around the country. It will contribute to our understanding of the brain and may help in the treatment of illnesses such as schizophrenia and epilepsy. Dr James Kilner,a scientist at the Institute of Neurology, University College London, explains how the new technology works.
HAPPINESS What's the link between happiness, health and stress? And how happy should we aim to be? These ever present human concerns are discussed by Professor Angela Clow, founder of the Psychophysiology and Stress Research Group at Westminster University, and Dr Daniel Nettle, a psychologist from the University of Newcastle and author of a new book, Happiness: The Science behind your smile.
