From Stage to Screen: Cabaret

Tuesday 30 May 2006 13:30-14:00 (Radio 4 FM)

Repeated: Saturday 3 June 2006 15:30-16:00 (Radio 4 FM)

Paul Gambaccini turns the spotlight on the transfer from stage to screen of Cabaret, the 1972 multiple Oscar-winning film. He meets the stars of Cabaret, Liza Minnelli and Michael York, who recall their time filming at the Bavarian Studios in Munich under the legendary director Bob Fosse.

And he explains why the film was able to portray its characters with greater frankness than had been possible on stage, due to the social and political upheavals in America during the late sixties.
