Brush With the Famous
Lynda Layton emailed us with her story of what might have been - if only her brother hadn't gone and spoilt it all! "The year was 1965, I was fifteen, and invited to my first 21st birthday extravaganza in a grand house in Benhall. I fell in love at first sight with the singer of the group, "Jokers Wild", and it seemed mutual - he kept his eyes on me all the time he was singing and, during the break when the disco took over, came and danced with me without saying a word - very cool! Eventually we got to names - his was David. He asked to take me home when the do was over. I said yes immediately, but my brother stepped in and warned him I was only fifteen (thanks a lot). I was broken hearted, though he gave me a passionate goodbye kiss. I often thought of him, and it wasn't till a few years ago when at my son's arty school in Hampshire, that I saw him again, in the library whilst we both waited to talk to the maths teacher. I hid behid a pillar, and when my son asked what I was doing, I told him I had spotted an old flame. He checked out the man in question and said "Mum, that's David Gilmour - you know, Pink Floyd?" I was deeply embarrassed and gave the maths teacher a miss, though I think I went up in my son's estimation! Two weeks ago I met the birthday girl - who told me she had bumped into him again last summer and all he could remember of her 21st was a beautiful girl called Linda! Aaaah - best kept as a happy memory!" Ever had a brush with the famous? Tell us about it in our message boards | |
