 About John Peel
| | |
Beat his introEveryone knows John Peel is a master craftsman of the spoken word. A rare gem in an otherwise dull universe ... OK enough of that. But even he struggles to come up with a pithy, vibrant, entrancing, ripplingly superb line to set Home Truths on track every Saturday morning. Read this week's introduction, and send in your ideas for how he should begin. I often lie awake at night trying to think of another and cleverer way of starting these programmes, but as you can tell, haven't come up with anything yet. "Hail, hail, the gang's all here," was the best I could come up with this week, and let's be honest, it's not good enough and has worrying after echoes of Gary Glitter anyway, so 'Hello and welcome to another Home Truths' it is.
And a special Hello & Welcome to Mr. W.L.Gandy of Woodstock, Oxfordshire, who wrote about the correct pronunciation of the words 'research' and 'resource,' but as we don't do research and have no resources, these things are not a problem for us. They tittered politely in the office when I said that - but I knew they were only humouring me.
Time to fling off Earth's shackles, pass through the Van Allen belt - whatever that is - and hurtle into deep space, black holes to the left of us, red dwarfs to the right, past the lazily spinning rock the size of Belgium that is on course to destroy our planet on November 11th. 20l4 - you mean they haven't told you? Is John losing his touch? How would your ideal Home Truths start? Would it involve outer space references? If you have ideas for taking over the programme, email [email protected] | |
