Running the Rex

Alan Higginson found a small ad in his local paper for a job running a little cinema. It was a moment that would transform not just his life but those of his family - his wife Sandra, their daughter Lisa, and Sandra's mother Maureen. When Alan took over the Rex Cinema at Elland, in a fold of the West Yorkshire Pennines, they all came to work with him.
And it's not just Alan's family. Twice a week the veteran cinema organist Dr Arnold Loxam plays the Rex's mighty-ish cinema organ.
Ken Cooper found them welcoming the audience in from the streets of Elland.
