The Gomershall family
Three generations of the Gomersall family

The Gomersalls

One of John's favourite charities was The Salvation Army. According to Sheila this stemmed from a wretched spell of National Service - at perhaps the lowest ebb in his life - when the sympathetic support offered by the Sally Army to young conscripts at his camp in North Wales provided him with a vital lifeline.

John would probably have been delighted to encounter the Gomersall family from Sheila's home town in Shipley, Yorkshire. The Gomersalls are three generations of Salvationists with just the one dropout to date.

Ray Kershaw went to meet them and to eavesdrop on band practice.
