Kicking addiction

Listen to the item

Alan Davies has spent most of his life addicted to drink and drugs. He was never a fussy addict - temazipam, amphetamines, ecstasy, heroin, crack - anything that held the possibility of a buzz.
When his teenage son Stephen also became an addict, the two of them would go out robbing together to fund their habits. Stephen's currently in the middle of a six-year sentence for malicious wounding.

Alan has finally been able to break free of his addictions. He's been clean for three years now, and works as a mentor, helping others to break the cycle of addiction.

Alan tells David Stafford how he became addicted in the first place.
