Drew's a top competition golfer. He finished sixth at the World Disabled Golf Championships in South Africa.
He went blind quite suddenly when he was in his thirties as a result of a hereditary condition called Leber's Optic Atrophy.
The condition is more common in men than women and is passed only through the female line. If Drew's mother knew she was a carrier, she never let on to her four sons when they were growing up. Each had a fifty per cent chance of going blind - and two of them did.
Drew is in his sixties and happily married to Dymphna. He came to terms with losing his sight long ago, but talked to Jenny Eclair about what is was like when it first happened.
