 Listen to the item
Garland dancing is a sort of female Morris dancing which supposedly originated in Lancashire. The Swale family, despite living in Scarborough in Yorkshire, are practitioners of the noble art - all three generations of them. There's Sheila, Cyril, their grown-up daughters Maureen, who works in a bank and Ann, a hospital clerk, plus the latest recruit, granddaughter Sophie.
Home Truths reporter Philippa Budgen took the train North to meet them.
