Injustice

Listen to the item

In 1987, Alison and Andrew Stevens were just a regular happily married couple living a quiet life with their two young sons, Lee who was five and Scott aged three.

Then Scott had an accident. He jumped out of the bath one day and somehow managed to break his thigh bone. It was a nasty break which meant he had to spend 6 weeks in traction.

But the doctors were unhappy with the Stevens' explanation for the break. They were convinced that it had to be more than just an accident. Social services were alerted and Andrew was taken to the police station for questioning. In the event, no action was taken but Scott was put on the child protection register. Then, the following year, Scott had another mishap.

Andrew and Alison talk to Michael Rosen about what happened next.
