Jack Chernin has a problem which means that his hands and feet sweat uncontrollably. He still has the condition today. It hasn't got in the way of a successful life, marriage, children and career: he did a degree in biology, took a doctorate in parasitology and parasitimmunology and recently retired as a university lecturer.
Even so, as he told Michael Rosen, Jack has to a certain extent lived his life in fear of the friendly handshake, and the recoil that all too often follows at the touch of his cold sweaty palm.
