 Former Radio 4 presenter Antony Smith recently researched, wrote and published the astonishing wartime story of two sailors who survived an Atlantic crossing of 2,500 miles adrift in a lifeboat, after their trampsteamer, The Anglo Saxon, was sunk off the Azores in 1940.
'Why stop there?', thought the intrepid Mr Smith. His appeal for three volunteers to help him re-enact the journey by raft caught the eye of retired Edinburgh surgeon and nautical enthusiast, Alec Spence. Alec applied and got the job, along with Sid Davies and Pat Ryan.
