Aileen Jones, a crew member of the Porthcawl lifeboat, is the first woman in 117 years to be presented with a medal for bravery during a sea rescue. Last August she was awarded the prestigious RNLI Bronze Medal for Gallantry for her role in the rescue of two fishermen.
Volunteering as lifeboat crew is a family thing. Steve, Aileen's husband also goes out on rescues, and her daughter Frances has started her years' training.
Her mum's attitude has really encouraged Frances. Aileen loves boats and knows her job well - and she's pretty bossy, so the mostly male crews don't dare give her too much lip!
