Linda's trial

Listen to the item

On the evening of 10 December 1996, Linda received a call from her husband saying he was on his way home from work. The next thing she heard was the sound of a crack and then a boom. What she didn't know at the time was that Richard, her husband of 13 years had just been shot dead outside their home.

Three months later Linda and her 21-year-old daughter Amanda from a previous marriage were arrested and charged with Richard's murder.

On the eve of their trial in June 1998 the charges were dropped due to lack of evidence, but Linda has spent the last 8 years trying to clear their names

Her fight has taken its toll on her health and her personal relationships - not only with Richard's children from his previous marriages but also with Amanda who was at home with Linda when Richard was murdered.

Linda has now received a public apology from the police for the way they handled the case, and the level of compensation they are to receive is currently under consideration.
