Back in the mid 1980s, when Mary Candler was facing marital problems she was unwittingly recruited into a cult.
Two and half years on this involvement culminated when she sold up, gave all the money raised to the cult and took her two daughters, then aged five and eight, to live with the cult in Portugal.
