Michael Knoth

Turning point

Listen to the item

Michael Knoth was eight years old in 1972 when his mother committed suicide at Beachy Head. The incident was never spoken about by his family.

Michael later learned that some years before his mother's death, an uncle had also taken his own life. There was a possibility, in Michael's mind at least, that this was a family trait. And this seemed to be confirmed seven years ago when in the midst of a terrible depression Michael made his own suicide attempt.

This proved to be the turning point and a new beginning, not just for Michael, but for the whole family.
