 John Peel OBE 1939-2004 |
Thanks for being such an all round good chap. For showing humility, interest in real people and always looking to support and develop real peoples real lives. You will be sorely missed by all who you touched. My thoughts go out the Sheila and the rest of your family. Thanks for doing it, thanks for being you, thanks for not compromising, thanks for sharing it every saturday morning. clevermonkey
I had the priveledge to talk to John in May 01 just after his team had won the championship.I was pleased to talk to him about my life on our farm, my Dad, my children and Glastonbury. And when it came to football, he was gentleman enough not to have put the phone down when I undiplomaticaly mentioned Carrow Road.
Peace then John. David
John Peel in HT celebrated life in all its richness; adventure, tragedy, foibles, silly happenings and, yes, just the 'routine' of every day living. Through 'Home Truths' we got to hear about Sheila and all the children and new grandchild. You are all very much in our thoughts as are John's colleagues on Radio 1 and 4. christine

When John sadly died, the Home Truths team were inundated with your kind messages.
Here's just a few of the many we received. This is a sad time for those of us who 'knew' John from a distance. What it must be like for his family, friends and colleagues can only be imagined. A consolatory thought: the spirit of one who gave so very much joy in this world can do nothing less than soar to the highest of heights in the next. All love to him and to his grieving family. Ruby
Our family have been listening to John for so many years - I started when I was a teenager listening to Radio 1 and have graduated to Radio 4 as the years have gone by (please do not ask me to specify just how many!) The BBC without John is almost unthinkable - he seemed to epitomise so many of all the best values that the Corporation is associated with. We will miss him so very, very much. Ana
I can't believe it. Death doesn't suit him. I contributed to the show a few weeks ago about the hurricanes in Florida (where I'm living). I was SO excited to talk to John, and he was the warm and compassionate man one-to-one that I always imagined he was. It was like talking to an old friend, not a stranger. I miss that friend already. Sheila and family, I'm so sorry and I'm thinking about you. Jane Compson
