Terry Hammond

Schizophrenia

Listen to the item

Terry Hammond's son Steve, became severely ill with schizophrenia when he was 21.

Terry and his wife Chris had both worked for many years in mental health services, but they were still unprepared for the emotional upheaval of it happening to them.

Terry and Chris are very hopeful that with continuing support and a little more time, Steve will eventually be able to live away from them, independently.

If you want help or advice on schizophrenia, you can call the BBC Actionline on 0800 044 044.
