Emigrating to Iraq

Emigrating to Iraq

Listen to the item

Mariam and Luay Khairulla first met 26 years ago when they were both studying at Strathclyde University in Glasgow.

Mariam came from a strict Scottish Presbyterian family, and Luay was a devout Iraqi Muslim. But despite such apparent obstacles, they married, (Mariam having converted to Islam.) They have 5 children, 3 sons and 2 daughters.

One daughter is married to a doctor, the other children are at school or university. Recently Luay went back to Iraq and came to the decision that Iraq is where he wants to remain.

Mariam and the rest of the family are due to go out and join them any day now.
