Hating Mum

Listen again

David Mason had an unhappy relationship with his mother when he was growing up....

David Mason

David was born when his mother was in her forties having had five other children much earlier in her life. In fact David was 15 years younger than his nearest sibling.

This led to him feeling isolated from the rest of the family - something he feels to this day. The feeling was exacerbated when his father died when David was seven and his mother had a succession of boyfriends whom David was expected to call "uncle".

His antipathy lasted for the rest of her life to the extent that when his mother died when David was in his thirties he didn't go her funeral.
