When you're a teenager, getting out the front door without getting the half hour run down of what you must on no account do whilst out in the big bad world requires a special skill. Dave remembers it well. And just lately he's begnning to understand what it all meant.

Married now, with a young daughter, he recalls a recent New Years' Eve when he and his family were staying with his parents. Dave stayed in with his wife and the television and a beer and a daughter upstairs asleep. His parents went partying...
