Holding the baby

Listen again

Most teenage lads would rather be out with their mates than looking after the kids...not Stuart Meadows

Stuart became a father at the age of 18. Unfortunately, his relationship with his son's mother didn't last and he was only granted rights to see the baby at weekends.

The situation changed when Stuart began to notice his one and a half year old son was covered in bruises. So he petitioned for and, unusually, gained sole custody.

That was four years ago. Now Stuart recognises that fatherhood has completely transformed his aspect on life. He's had to put his son's needs first and sometimes found fatherhood a very isolating experience.

Listen to the interview to find out how Stuart copes with bringing up his son on his own
