When Eleanor Burke visited France, her daughter Miranda entered a competition. A crate of ducks was emptied off the end of a pier into the sea. The children were invited to jump in and if they caught a duck, they could keep it.

Of course all the French children were delighted because then it could be cooked beautifully and put on their table. But Miranda was horrified and wanted to take her duck home.

The duck was a much-loved family pet and stayed with the family for two years.

Listen to Eleanor talk about the strange circumstances of the duck's disappearance...
